Find Your Shakha

A shakha is a weekly gathering open to all ages — building character, community, and culture. Contact us to discover one near you.

What Is a Shakha?

The word shakha (शाखा) means "branch" in Sanskrit — a branch of the great tree of Hindu society. A shakha is a regular gathering of swayamsevaks that forms the foundational unit of HSS.

Every shakha follows a structured yet joyful programme blending physical activity, intellectual engagement, cultural learning, and fellowship. It is a space where individuals grow, friendships deepen, and a sense of collective purpose is cultivated.

The shakha is open to all — children, youth, and adults. There is no subscription fee, no qualification required. You simply show up, and the shakha becomes part of your week.

🏃 Physical Activity

Surya namaskar, yogasanas, outdoor games, and exercises build physical fitness, coordination, and team spirit.

🎵 Geet & Prayer

Bhajans, shlokas, and the Sangh Prarthana connect participants with the spiritual dimension of dharmic life.

🧠 Bauddhik

Intellectual discussions on history, culture, dharma, and current affairs — cultivating informed, thinking individuals.

🤝 Fellowship

The bonds formed at shakha go beyond the hour — they become lifelong friendships grounded in shared values.

Bala Gokulam

Bala Gokulam (बाल गोकुलम्) — "the world of children" — is HSS's dedicated programme for younger participants aged 5 to 15, running alongside adult shakhas.

Sessions are fun, interactive, and deeply enriching. Children learn through stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, participate in arts and craft activities, sing bhajans, and begin to learn simple Sanskrit shlokas.

The programme gives children growing up outside India a strong, joyful connection to their cultural identity — not through obligation, but through love and belonging.
